aespa(에스파)는 대한민국의 SM엔터테인먼트 소속 다국적 4인조 걸그룹이다.

SMCU프로젝트의 첫 주자로 나서게 되며, 프로젝트 내에서 독립적인 세계관으로 이야기를 펼치고 있다.

그룹 이름인 ‘aespa’는 “Avatar X Experience”를 표현한 ‘æ’와 ‘양면’을 뜻하는 ‘aspect’를 합친 조어이며 ‘자신의 또 다른 자아인 아바타 ae를 만나며 새로운 세계를 경험하게 된다’라는 세계관을 기반으로 활동한다.

팬덤명 ‘MY’는 영어고 ‘나의 소중한 친구’를 뜻하는 ‘my precious friends’에서 유래했으며 가상세계에서 가장 소중한 존재를 나타내는 단어이다. 멤버 카리나와 윈터는 'GOT the beat'로도 활동중이다.

SM 엔터테인먼트에서 레드벨벳 이후로 6년 만의 신인 걸 그룹으로 2020년 11월 17일에 싱글 〈Black Mamba〉로 데뷔하였다. 구성원으로는 한국인 2명, 혼혈(한/일) 1명, 중국인 1명으로 구성되어 있다.

FLAT의 맞은편에는 형태가 정해지지 않거나 무한의 영역인 ‘KWANGYA'(광야, 曠野) 가 펼쳐져 있다.

<<2020년>>

에스파는 2020년 11월 17일에 〈블랙 맘바〉(Black Mamba)로 데뷔했다. 에스파는 SM 엔터테인먼트가 레드벨벳 이후 6년 만에 발표된 여자 그룹이기 때문에 많은 주목을 받았다.

발매 이후 하루 만에 앨범이 95개국의 음원차트에 진입하면서 많은 성과를 얻었다. 유튜브 공개 24시간만에 2140만 조회수를 달성하여, 달라달라를 갱신한 신기록을 세웠다. 11월 2주차 아이돌차트 '아차랭킹'에서 에스파는 14위로 진입했다. 게다가 2020년 12월에는 걸그룹 브랜드평판 빅데이터를 분석한 결과 3위에 올랐다. 이 곡은 빌보드 글로벌 100 차트에 오르면서, K팝 데뷔곡 중 최고 순위를 달성했다.

11월 21일에는 KBS2 뮤직뱅크에서 〈블랙 맘바〉로 첫 번째 무대를 선보였고, 12월 31일에는 MBC 가요대제전 'THE MOMENT'에서 공연을 펼쳤다.

에스파는 데뷔한 지 두 달도 되지 않았던 1월 1일 'SMTOWN LIVE' 무대에 섰다.[16] 또 2021년 1월 31일에는 트레저, 엔하이픈과 함께 서울가요대상 신인상을 수상했다.

2021년 2월 5일, 에스파는 두 번째 곡인 〈Forever (약속)〉을 발매했다. 2000년 유영진이 발매한 곡을 원곡으로 했다. 이를 통해 '월드 디지털 송 세일8즈' 11위에 올랐다.

2021년 5월 17일, 세 번째 싱글 앨범 〈Next Level〉이 발매되었다.

2021년 10월 5일, 미니 앨범 〈Savage〉 (세비지) 가 발매됐다. 세비지는 발매된후 빌보드 차트 20위에 들어서며 걸그룹역사상 최초로 빌보드 20위를 달성한 걸그룹이되었다.

2021 12월 20일 〈Dream Come True〉S.E.S의 데뷔 20여년을 기념으로 에스파가 리메이크곡을 냈다.<Dream Come True> 로컴백한지 7일만에 24개의 차트에 올라갔다.
